Movement workshop with puppeteer Stephen Mottram

East Oxford Community Centre (upstairs hall), Princes Street, OX4 1DD

As part of the development stage for our new work-in-progress, Dolls' House, Café Reason have arranged this workshop with puppeteer Stephen Mottram, in order to explore the nature of 'dollness' and the possibilities and restrictions inherent in this state.

Stephen is an international performer and teacher. As well as teaching puppetry and marionette-making, his Logic of Movement workshop investigates 'why things move in the way they do, and how knowing about this helps the puppeteer and other stage practitioners to express ideas more successfully to an audience'. You can read more about Stephen's work on his website.

There are a small number of places available; cost £35. Please email Ayala to book.

Saturday 30th May 2015 - 8pm

Oxford Fringe festival

Work-in-progress performance of Dolls' House.

Peep into the dolls' house for a preview of some of the scenes we are developing for this new show (to be performed in full at the Pegasus Theatre in January 2016). See 'new work' for more information about our Dolls' House project.

Oxford Brookes Drama Studio, Headington Hill campus, OX3 0BP. Parking usually available. For directions see the Diamond Night information, above.

Doors open 7.30 for 8.00 start. (No late entry is possible as the doors open onto the stage.) The show will last about 1 hour.

The venue is small and informal, so numbers are limited. Email Ayala to book a seat in advance, or ring Jeannie (07787 437486) on the day.

There is no ticket charge, but (generous) donations would help us to cover our costs.

Tuesday 21st July 2015 - 7.30pm

Dance Scratch Night

Cafe Reason will be showing a short work-in-progress piece for Dolls' House at The Old Firestation in Oxford as part of the OFS Dance Scratch. Start 7.30 pm. Part of a mixed programme, the evening is an opportunity for audiences to see new work in development and offer feedback to the makers. More info

Friday 13th November 2015, 7.00pm - 10.00pm

Natsuko Kono Workshop

This workshop with Berlin-based Japanese butoh dancer Natsuko Kono will be instead of our normal Friday class at our usual venue: East Oxford Community Centre (upstairs hall), Princes Street, OX4 1DD. Cost: £15.

Natsuko's workshop method explores how to develop the performer’s ‘whole instrument’ and to awaken the deep parts of our humanity that may have been neglected. The physical body, mind, imagination, and energy or ‘vital life force’ are all aspects of a unified performer that she will encourage us to develop to the highest possible level. She notes, importantly, that butoh practice is not only for performers, or an art form exclusive to dance; it is an open concept through which everyone can find their own inspiration. More info

Places are limited, so please contact Jeannie to book in advance: 01993-812840 / 07787 437486; jeanniedonaldmckim@gmail.com
